On Jokes and Hobbies

Two cool things that I stumbled upon during the weekend.

One
I was watching Conan the other night and he featured a comedian at the end of the show. His name is Pete Holmes and he is one hell of a funny dude. He mostly talks about his personal experiences, and generally steers away from the common racist and dirty humor. What I like about him is the intonation of his voice during his delivery. It changes so drastically during punch lines that the change in itself makes that act work. Big time!

One of his acts that I like is about the common jokes that he thinks people should stop making. It is called Really? The last part, I'm sure, will hit a lot of the people I know, myself included :D

Two
I want to retire early. So I've been reading and, fortunately, getting great insights from the internets. One of my favorite sites to read is a blog by a dude named Jacob Fisker. Guess what, it is about retiring early. It makes a lot of sense. Why? Simple. What he is doing, if I understood correctly :D, is living a frugal lifestyle, investing earnings for the retirement, and, last but not the least, maintaining a vegetable garden XD

Anyway, there is a post regarding hobbies that I personally got hit with. It is Find A Free Hobby. Since I am basically living the life that he described when he was in my current years. The gist about expensive hobbies is that "In the end we all have the same to show for it: Nothing". It does make sense to avoid them.

Everything used to work.
The application got broken when it was deployed to a different web server.

I cleared the cache.

It worked.

Apparently, the encoding of my previous web server was different from the encoding set on my new server so some of the javascript code broke. The code with a different encoding was still on the cache.

Dragon Age 2

Fast paced. Hooking. Awesome.

Play it on Nightmare.

The Ancient Rock Wraith is imba. -- Apparently, I just didn't do it right the first time. Hacking and slashing is ineffective for this guy. The tactic that worked for me was ranged attacks :D

This game forces the player to visit several areas of the game, over and over and over (around 3 times :D). Every visit (per 2 years, or so, in the game time) to an area respawns different creatures and items across the same map. Like a refresh of everything but in the same map. Also, it may be to make up for the fact that a lot of the areas in the game are reused and just called differently within the game itself.

The first play-through.

Nagyaya sila maghapunan, kaya ayun.

How To Be A Billionaire

Bruno Mars says he wants to be a billionaire. But he doesn't layout any plans on how to accomplish any of that stuff :D

So I looked around and found this article.

It's a good read. Be sure to check it out.

Back to tennis

I haven't been able to perform a lot of physical activities, except walking and swimming, due to my lower back problem.

I will try to play tennis but if my back starts acting up, I will go back to my doctor.

-----

My back did not hurt at all. In fact, I feel better. Apparently, physical activities are my cure.

Buyanihan

There's this new Pinoy website Buyanihan. They do bulk orders from businesses to get better prices. Then they offer discounted deals for those goods to its users.

Ultimately, it is the customers who win by getting better deals for products/services that they intend to buy anyway. Easy.

"Using Buyanihan is easy and takes less than a minute. You can check our website every day to find out what deals in the city are featured every day. Or you can subscribe to the email alert which we distribute to subscribers every morning. Subscribers enter their name and billing information.

If you like the deal, click the link on the Today’s Deal page to buy it. You won't be charged unless the minimum number of people required to sign up is met to make the Buyanihan deal successful.

If enough people join before midnight, the Buyanihan e-Coupon will appear in your inbox the next morning. You can use your coupon anytime you want during the specified run of the offer."

Check them out!

Thanks for sharing Barqs!

Korean pick up line

So nakapila ko sa sakayan ng FX, pauwi na galing opisina. Sa harap ko, may babaeng Pinay na nakapila.

Bigla nalang may lumabas na Koreano na nagtanong dun sa babae "Do you know where the Korean grocery is?". Si ate naman ang sagot, "No". Kung tama ang alala ko, parang kinikilig si ate nung panahon na yun. May lambing yung pag "no" niya.

Naisip ko agad pick up in progress. :D

"Do you have a number? What's your name?", tanong nung Korean.

Sumagot naman si ate na Grace, sabay bigay ng number. Score!!!

Bigla ba naman hinihila na nung loko yung braso ni ate.

Nakatingin lang ako ng pamura dun kay Korean boy.

"I'm Korean."

Napapa-"I don't care" ako e.

Tapos umalis na si kuya Koreano. hehe
Hindi sumama si Grace.
Mission failed.

Kaya ayun, if you are Korean and you are trying to pick up a Filipina chick, don't force her, it's really lame. Plus, you will fail. Cheers!

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty - Patch 2.1.2.2105

General
  • Tools Update (2.1.2.2105)
The patch is taking forever to download at zero KBps! XD

No problems detected ;) Good job.

Nissin Di622 MARK II flash

The Nissin ND622MKII is a seriously good new flash to enter the market.

Compared to Canon's 430EX II or Nikon's SB-600 it has the following advantages:
  • Better price (~8k php vs ~14.5k php, ~12.5k php respectively)
  • Higher guide number (32 vs 31, 30 respectively)

Also has TTL for the "automatic" shooting needs, and pretty much all of the features that can be found with the OEM flashes.

For photography enthusiasts, based on the specs, the price, and the reviews I've read, I highly recommend this flash.

I'm getting one soon, hopefully, to complement my 580EX II

my new ISP

My new ISP is great for my purposes ;) ~1.5mbps download, ~.45 mbps upload. Having it connected is a great way to start the new year.
