Reality Work (Show)

Siyempre May Pasok Bukas at Gising Pa Ako

Game.
  • Puro fastfood ang pinaglalamon ko nitong weekend. Taba kung taba. Bilbil kung bilbil.
  • Superbad.

Genshiken

Gendai Shikaku Bunka Kenkyūkai; The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture. It sounds like an academic group of some sort. It is actually a club of Otakus dedicated not to study but, as I get it, to enjoy anime and video games.

So I watched the series because I got intrigued with the statement of one of my co-workers. He said that it's an anime about otakus. For me, it's something fresh so I checked it out.

Some thoughts:
  • Every episode is like a thesis written for a specific aspect of the subculture that brought about the existence of the Otakus. All of the episode titles are long and wordy. Instances are, "Comparative Classification of the Modern Youth through Consumption and Entertainment" (otaku shopping...), "The Sublimating Effects of the Dissimulation Brought on Through Makeup and Costume on Mental Obstacles" (cosplaying...) and "Concerning the Existence and Non-Existence of Explanatory Duties Under Specially Confined Circumstances" (h-games and otaku human interactions...).
  • The club idea has been expounded with the fact that, every school year, new members are recruited while others graduate. This implies that new characters are introduced while some are somehow detached.
  • The thinking in terms of characters attitude. The otakus look at a person as an anime/manga character. For example, if you generally look displeased, you are the unsociable character or if you are a childhood friend of someone, then you are the childhood friend character.
  • The voice actress for Saki Kasukabe, Satsuki Yukino, is also the same voice actress for Kaname Chidori of Full Metal Panic! Coincidentally, both characters have similar personalities. That plus the fact that I didn't notice any variation in her voice acting made it seem like Kaname all over again.
What I like about this show is it arouses the idea of studying, in depth, new art forms, its effects, and manifestations, in a certain culture. It also reminds me to spend less time in front of the computer and television.

After this experience, it would be enriching to read on papers/articles concerning dominant art forms like variety shows, telenovelas, text messages and streamline pocket books in the modern Filipino setting.

tARbaho at nalalapit na Pasko

Work Christmas Party

Parang reality T.V. show lang. Kaya habang masaya pa ako, Merry Christmas in advance to all!

Perfect Stranger
"The idea that we're supposed to be reporting the news, not covering it up."

Kahapon nanood kami ng Evan Almighty at The Simpsons Movie.

Spiderpig spiderpig!
Does whatever a spiderpig does.
Can he swing from a web?
No he can't he's a pig.
Lookout!
He is a spiderpig.

Nag-ehersisyo kami kaninang hapon, tapos kumain sa fast food. Husay ano.

Ratatouille

Good.

I thought it was only a boring 3D animation movie about a rat that can cook, but wait, there was more.

In the beginning there is this character, Anton Ego, a critic, who says that he doesn't think that anyone can do it (cook). Then the main character in the movie is a rat named Remy who cooks like a professional chef.

The movie is about Remy, a rat with a "highly developed sense of taste and smell" who gets fond of cooking and the "teachings" of Chef Gusteau, one of the best chefs in Paris. With the events in the movie, Remy becomes a "chef" in Chef Gusteau’s restaurant. The movie ended with Anton Ego, who didn't like Chef Gusteau's cooking, liking Remy's cooking.

I liked the movie with its metaphors (e.g. the rat is only a symbol denoting something generally unaccepted) and messages relating to ideas about the family, work, humans and rats, and, above all, criticisms.

"If you focus on what you've left behind, you'll never see what lies ahead."

The movie ends along with Anton Ego's line:
"In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new.
Last night, I experienced something new, an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau’s famous motto: Anyone can cook. But I realize that only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau’s, who is, in this critic’s opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France. I will be returning to Gusteau’s soon, hungry for more."

Transformers (2007)

Good.

The military and all their stuff, robots, science fiction, government conspiracies, evil man philosophy, a hot girl mechanic, computers, gadgets, and sports cars. Put them all together and you have this movie.

It's about the Autobots, the "evil" Decepticons, and their war about the All Spark that could be used either to recreate their planet or to destroy anything. The All Spark found itself on Earth. The leader of the Decepticons, Megatron, found out about this and went to the Earth to retrieve it. Unfortunately for him, it was located in the Arctic Circle so he got frozen. Then an expedition group found Megatron and the All Spark and then, somehow, the US government was able to retrieve, preserve and classify the alien stuff as super top secret. The leader of the expedition, Archibald Witwicky, accidentally activated Megatron's navigation system and Megatron was able to imprint the coordinates of the location of the All Spark on Archibald's glasses. Soon afterwards, Autobots and Decepticons fought for the All Spark involving humans in the process.

I liked the visual effects but there are scenes that are too dirty. I wasn't able to view the details of the animation of some parts. It's like I get it there's a fight, but all I see is dirt and dust. The audio is pretty neat as well. The voices of the robots are pretty convincing.

I'm actually quite disappointed about the plot because the film wasn't able to tackle about the intentions of the betrayal of Megatron. It's very one sided.

It's funny that the Autobots chose non-battle vehicles (sports car, truck) while the Decepticons got the war vehicles (tank, helicopter, airplane). It reminds me of the animated series Beast Wars transformers where Optimus Prime became a Gorilla and Megatron became a Tyrannosaurus Rex. There was also an Autobot that became a rat. Who would want that? Lol. If I were an Autobot, I'd disguise myself as a naval battleship or a fighter plane like the Decepticon Starscream. I wouldn't go for the sports car because it can't fly. XD Go for the best. It's evident though that the way they choose what they become has something to do with their role. It’s a sort of representation of the constructive/destructive characteristics that they have. As the song goes, "You can't talk peace and have a gun." The funny thing is that both of the sides have the war related gadgets.

Some interesting lines from the movie:
"We've learned Earth's languages through the world wide web."
This is the most interesting one:
"If there were some sort of alien infestation, then the government would be the first to let us know. That's how we know we live in a free land because there are no secrets."
Ha, ha, haha.

The Game Plan

Good.

It's a wholesome movie about a selfish american football quarterback and his daughter, that he didn't know about, who knocked on his door, entered and changed his life.

It stars The Rock who is better at acting in this film. I think that his 'wrestling' experience helped in his acting career. He smiled, sang songs, danced ballet, and acted. It's like The Rock joining the Mickey Mouse club. But, in fairness to him, he did well.

His daughter is played by Madison Pettis who did very well in playing her part. I'm quite sure that she is part of the club that The Rock recently joined.

The concept of the movie is not totally new but it works nicely as a family movie.

Tatlo yung itinirik kong kandila, parang "I love you" lang.

Video Games and Future Leaders

Tomorrow's finest leaders may well be today's gamers

Above is the link to a chewy article that avenges the idea of spending an awful lot of time playing video games. It focuses on the fact that gamers, by playing video games, must have developed good problem solving skills and better logical thinking among other things (resource management, risk analysis, micro management, efficiency, etc.) and are therefore fit to become future leaders.

Although it greatly depends on its genre, video games, especially the modern ones, are essentially bundles of problems that need to be solved. This means that playing a game is similar to solving many problems either simultaneously or linearly. Gamers are therefore good at thinking of solutions because of the amount of problems that need to be solved before completing a game.

Games are made by piecing ideas in a logical manner. I think that playing them develops logical thinking because the players have to understand the logic behind the game in order to play effectively.

As mentioned earlier, the learning factor depends on the genre of the game because, I think, a gamer can learn more from a strategy game where the player devises strategies and implements them in order to achieve a goal rather than a death match first person shooter where players just roam around and kill each other. The latter is fun and thrilling but not very enriching because at the end of each match, the player wouldn't have planned and just acted out of instinct. Meaning, the player wouldn't know what he/she did wrong and most likely repeat the same thing in other situations. This can be good though in developing fast decision making.

So in a sense, playing video games is not only something to fend off boredom. If anything, depending on how the gamer takes it, it can be very enriching allowing gamers to develop skills that are cool to have.

1408

Good enough.

It's about Mike Enslin, an unconvinced writer who writes about haunted places. The movie revolves around his paranormal experience inside the inhuman hotel room 1408.

There's also the reference to the number 13 thing because 13 is supposed to be unlucky and 1408 is 1+4+0+8=13. Adding the numbers is similar to the idea in the movie The Number 23, which means that it doesn't make any sense. Why do you have to add the numbers anyway? I think that it is over thinking.

I don't see any point in it but watching it was entertaining because we were trying to frighten Barqs.

Shakugan no Shana Movie

Good enough.

It's a sort of remake of the first few episodes of the first season of the anime. So there is nothing major to see. The differences lie in the flow of the story and are only noticeable in the final half of the movie.

Some of the minor details in the movie include:
  • Wilhelmina is always on T.V. and is traveling.
  • Yuji's father is in Gobi Desert according to his mother.
  • Yoshida's love interest for Yuji is revealed as early as before the real Yukari passed away.
  • Friagne the Hunter used more dolls.
The weirdest thing about this movie is that Yuji was able to cast a Fuzetsu. Another revelation is the fact that Alastor did not randomly select Shana as his vessel. Shana was selected because of her capability to unleash Alastor without destroying herself in the process.

This movie, like other anime series based movies, is jargon to all non-Shana watchers.

Fracture

Good.

It's about a smart and filthy-rich guy Ted Crawford who carefully killed his cheating wife.

The smart guy is played by Anthony Hopkins who is ever so effective with roles of this sort (remember the Hannibal series).

An idea presented in this movie is the ability of some people to outwit the law, which is not surprising. After all, the law is only good when it is convenient.

The movie is open-ended, which brought an oblivious feeling regarding the law and everything it represents.

Week Ender

  • Napaka-busy ng mga tao.
  • Gusto kong magpamasahe.
  • I started watching Shakugan no Shana Second. I'm thinking about how the author is going to dispose of the cute antagonist. It's weird.

Surf's Up

Bad.

It's about a penguin named Cody Maverick who loves to surf. That's interesting right?

Penguins did not evolve to be penguins to surf. I don't understand. Picking penguins as surfing animals is just weird. Chickens even.

The CG water is awesome. Many people say that it still is not good enough, but I'm happy already with the quality presented in this movie.

I don't remember anything else worth noting about this movie.

Don't watch it.

Captivity

Good.

It's a suspense-thriller movie about the abduction of a very popular model (within the context of the movie) Jennifer Tree played by Elisha Cuthbert. It's like stalker to the next level. Creepy.

I like this movie because it is smartly laid out and it makes sense. That is because other thrillers seem to be made only to give the watchers a shock. The thing is, the antagonists in this movie aren't totally nuts. They create a plan and execute their plan to perfection because they want to have control, to get laid and to watch a porn video starring themselves. And that, that is just so rational.

A funny idea from the movie is that even people who sleep in other people's cars can be abducted. Equality in abduction. Yeah boy. Unfortunately, in the movie, the guy who sleeps in other people's cars who got abducted was role playing. Damn.

Bubble Gang The Movie

Nakakatawang panoorin at pakinggan. Marami ring tagpong may pole dancing. Swabe.

Nakakatawa yung isang eksenang bigla nalang nag-break dance yung dalawang bida dahil kitang-kitang double yung sumayaw.

Knocked Up

Good enough.

It's a fun and stupid movie about two completely different persons who reproduced without intending to do so because of each one's respective circumstance and, most notably, alcohol. It stars Seth Rogen as Ben, the happy-go-lucky, pot-addicted, broke guy, and Katherine Heigl as Alison, the successful, career-oriented, girl.

This movie contains a lot of advertising of products and services online or not. Other things the movie presented that I usually look out for are sex (lots), drugs (tons), and violence.

The movie is very funny but it contains ideas that are too extreme to be viable in reality. Funny and stupid.

Meet The Robinsons

Good Enough.

It's another time travel movie but it is animated. Jade told me that it's good.

This week is like animation week for me.

The movie is about a very smart, orphaned kid who was able to invent a memory recall device which he invented to know why he was left at the orphanage. After a science fair scene where he presented his invention, many other science fiction stuff like time travel and time-space continuum stuff were presented. What's nice is that these complex ideas were presented with flair and colors rather than with formulas and equations. So all in all, I think most kids who watch this will like the presentation of the ideas but won't have any idea about the science behind them.

It is based on a book, I forgot the title though.

Anyways, the plot was very easy to see through. Maybe because it's for kids and a simple plot is very apt. The thing is that it's annoying to watch a movie when you have seen through it after around 12 minutes of watching. Remind me not to watch movies made for kids anymore.

I remember another time travel movie which is very much similar to this movie. It's called The Time Machine! The difference between the two movies is violence and the "moral lesson". In this movie it's "keep moving forward", which sounds like a vehicle company's slogan. The Time Machine's "moral lesson" is something like you can't change the past, what you have to do is accept the past and live in the present.

The idea of building a time machine is absurd. I wonder why people even think of building ones. Yes, it is a great leap for man kind if one is created. And yes, there will be many benefits. But building one will ruin the very essence of life. I know that many people want to undo the mistakes that they have done but, really, isn't life about making mistakes and learning from them? (ha ha ha) If you are in power, for example the president of a country, and you know that doing corrupt things is a huge mistake, you still do them. But you do them because you want to learn, right? Maybe. That's life. (That statement didn't make any sense, where did it come from?)

Overall, I think Meet The Robinsons is a nice movie for kids. :D

Shrek The Third

Good.
The third movie in the Shrek series. Its flow is funny, its story is one of a kind and its animation is nice. The movie is great.
  • King Arthur, Lancelot and Merlin were included to the characters. I guess they weren't able to find anyone else fit for the role of king. In addition, they did not debunk the idea of becoming royalty by consanguinity alone. I thought they were going there.
  • The ogre babies and the donkey-dragon babies are very cute.
  • There is one product advertisement.
  • The touch of feminism, which has been common with all the other Shrek movies, is still present.
  • Eddie Murphy sings again.
  • The scene where Pinocchio was trying his best to tell the truth by using double negations and other logical statements so that he doesn't give information to the antagonists is one of the funniest scenes in the movie.
  • Another funny scene is the Ginger Bread Man's flashback of his life when he thought that he was going to get killed.
More than the 3D animation and the comedy are ideas that are nice to ponder upon like the ogre protagonist or the ass-kicking princess.

Another interesting idea is that fairy tales are often one-sided in that most of the detail is given to the to-be-happy protagonist. The only thing that needs to be known about the evil antagonists is that they are evil, nothing more than that. As Charming said in his pursuit of his happily ever after, "Once upon a time, someone decided that we we're the losers. There are two sides to every story, and our side has not been told."
Unfortunately, they always end Charming's conflict with Shrek with the Win-Lose approach.

Global Volunteer

We went to an Anawim center in Montalban, Rizal to serve as "global volunteers".

Movies Watched September 20-23, 2007

I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry
Good.

It's a movie about two firemen, Chuck and Larry, who got married because the latter became a single dad and wanted his children to be his beneficiaries in case he dies. Larry was pushed to do it because of a terrible accident that got Chuck and him hospitalized.

It's about the money for the family, breaking the law, and most importantly gay rights. It made me remember this previous entry.

Of course it has sex, violence, and massive advertising. It has boob groping, too. And it's just last week that I (first) saw one in a Hollywood movie. I didn't think that it would be common nowadays. In addition to that, it's a PG-13 movie even if it should have been R-18, so parents beware.

On top of everything is it's humor. It's hilarious. I almost got a locked jaw laughing and smiling all through out the movie. The jokes just kept coming.
It's not meant to be one of the greatest movies of all time, but it works.

Bleach: Memories of Nobody
Good enough.

Another anime movie that is kind of hard to take in.

The movie appears to be a filler. I wouldn't know because I don't watch the series or read the manga. Maybe that's why I didn't appreciate the movie that much. I was able to watch the first episode of the anime, but that was it.

If anything, I liked the sounds, fight scenes and animation. Nothing more though. XD

Permission to land on the moon

Something I learned today.

You don't need a permit to land on the moon. What you need is a permit to launch from Earth.

That is according to this article.

Simply put, it means you have to pay your government to get out of this planet. XD

It's funny because it's related to something like this previous entry.

The next big annoying thing will be real estate on places other than those on Earth.
Prepare for it.

Computer experiences have pictures too

Have you ever seen google in error? I've been using it for around 9 years now and this is the only time that I've seen it in error. I forgot how I got to this screen though. What is the most annoying thing with software?
It's when you want to quit, you can't.

Someone is googling me.
Porny sex? What? Never thought of my blog that way. XD

Movies Watched September 13-16, 2007

Rogue Assassin
Good.
Jet Li turns Mafia. It's nice to see him as an antagonist, because he is absolutely good at it.
Sex, violence, nice cars all around.
Mahirap intindihin sa simula. As in yung violence lang ang makikita. But everything clears up at the end of the movie.
I particularly like his smug expression at a certain scene.
I will re-watch this movie at some time in the future.

Blades of Glory
Good enough.
A story that I could put up with.
Ugly lift effects. As in it is too obvious that there is a rope that helps the actors do their moves.
Massive product advertising. Sex, most notably boob groping, and violence, as always.
It features a skating move that kills. How violent can a skating film get? So I say, it's the most violent figure skating film ever.

Spider-Man 3
Good.
As usual, great fight scenes and special effects.
I loved the drama, which, I think, is one of the reasons why the Spider-Man movies are great. That is other than the fact that it is an "I want to know what happens next" sort of movie.

Happy grandparent's day pala ngayon. ^^

Quite Porny

Same old drill. The news shows something porny and I check it out.

Up in the internet is High School Musical's Vanessa Hudgens nude picture.
It's real.
According to some rumors, it's for her boyfriend.
Whatever it is for, it will have a huge impact on the High School Musical stuff.

I'm disappointed, yet again, with the news for showing the picture on T.V.

Just for the record, (defensive as always) I don't watch High School Musical movies.

Second Day, Second Job

May nakipag-away kaagad.

Kapag naka-usual shirt, pants, rubber shoes get up, kinakapkapan at hinahalughog ang bag ko.

The Wowowee controversy, again

Suhol? Walang source? O wala nanaman talaga?

Diverting the issues, yet again. I wouldn't be surprised if everything about the issue is fabricated.

Movies Watched July 21, 2007 - August 31, 2007

Many movies and little time to write.

Little Miss Sunshine
Good. Pretty corny but, somehow, it works.

Pan's Labyrinth
Good. This film is fantastic.

Dreamgirls
Bad if you don't like musicals. Otherwise, it's good. I never really thought that Eddie Murphy could sing.

Naruto Movie 3
Bad.

Death Note Movie
Good. Cool CG. Different presentation from the anime but as long as Light dies, it's pretty much the same.

Vacancy
BAD. Do yourself a favor, don't watch it. Stupid, sick movie. Sayang lang ang Kate Beckinsale.

Just Like Heaven
Good. It's about being dead. Well, being dead, as implied in the movie, is about having no life. So life isn't exactly about having a pulse.
I can relate to the movie because, somehow, I had to re-evaluate the status of my life.

Bourne Supremacy
Good, definitely.

I Think I Love My Wife
Good enough.

Mission Impossible 3
Okay. The story is kind of lame though. The girlfriend had to be a nurse so that she would be able to do CPR on Ethan at the falling action of the story. Masyadong pilit yung ganoong planned payoff.
Ang ganda nung Lamborghini. Almost 10 million pesos damn. You can give a living with that.

Shooter
Good. The speech is unpleasant, but everything else is great.

Stay Alive
Bad. Yet again, violence, shocking scenes, sex, and a bad story. Oh wait, there's more. Video games.

Chances Are
Good. It's an old film. 1989?
It's about reincarnation and remembering your past life. Robert Downey Jr. is good in it. And it proves that sex in movies has been there even waaaaaay back in the day.

The Lookout
Okay. The story is not very convincing though. It doesn't drive the nail into my head.

Dungeons and Dragons
Bad. The script and acting is awful. He is good at comedy but not in an epic movie.

The Break-Up
Okay. I don't like the way Vince Vaughn's talks.

Dungeons and Dragons 2 Wrath of the Dragon God
Okay. The casting in this movie is a little better than the first movie. It shows great management skills by a king. "Proceed in the belief that your comrades will succeed." Ang baduy nung special effects, particularly the lightning bolt. There is also that freshly carved sign on a supposedly old grave.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Bad. The Fantastic Four movies are time wasters. Yeah, they do have nice flashy stuff, but they have terrible stories. It's too bad that I've watched both.

MirrorMask
Good. A movie that goes to show that, sometimes, it may be easier to escape the harshness reality. Although escaping reality may imply more than just evading whatever is in it.
The make-up, effects and music are fantastic. The combination is remarkable and it created the on-paper fantasy world. It's definitely fascinating. My only complaint is the speech. It's kind of muffled at some points.

The Wowowee controversy

The way I see it: Two douche bags babbling nonsense on T.V.

They are wasting the time of the people who choose to waste time watching the noontime shows. The least the people behind the shows can do is to provide quality and non-controversial content. There is no need to cry in public. It is very lame.

Whatever they are doing, it's giving them an awful lot of publicity. Ratings. $$$

The senate? Why should the senate become involved with such nonsense? I mean, come on. It's annoying enough that a multi-million, under-the-table, money-wasting, obviously-corrupted national broadband network deal exists. Bringing an issue with this caliber to the senate? Absurd.

Relatives huh?

It's funny. We opened our 2006 Christmas gifts just now. That's four months before the next one. Talk about no communication.

Isang linggo nalang, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. nanaman.

Installing Wordpress and apparently AMP on Windows XP

Why? I was setting up a wordpress blog on my localhost to be able to do some local blogging.

Here's how I did it:
  • Download Apache Web Server. I took the 2.2.4 version. At the time of this writing, these are the latest stable versions.
  • Download MySQL Server. 5.0.45.
  • Download PHP. 5.2.3.
  • Download Wordpress. 2.2.2.
  • Install them all.
  • Test and figure out why it's not working.
  • Tada, a fully functional system.
So much for detail.
The thing is, I've done this sort of setup in the past for the Joomla CMS. The installation is pretty much the same.

My Comments:
  • Prefer to use these technologies in Linux because it is easier with all the shell power among other things. LAMP is LAMP after all.
  • I'm kind of annoyed that the naming for the pages for the Apache Web Server is htdocs. It gave me some trouble looking for the file that contained the "It's works!" string.
  • The httpd configuration file by default was set to only serve index.html. It did not include index.php.
  • I encountered a bug wherein the PHP module does not work until the PC is restarted which was weird because it has been reported already 5 years ago. I had to restart the PC for the PHP module to work. This link helped me through it. Kind of funny because I was REALLY able to relate to the posters.

Porn Again

Recently, there is this rumor that Angel Locsin did some porn.

I had to do the right thing.

I watched the rumored porn video.

I got the information from the local news. The news that everyone can watch.

The video goes for +32 minutes. I didn't watch it all. It is 3 in the morning after all.

Here are some of my findings regarding the video.
  • Hell no, that girl is not Angel Locsin. Apparently, some prick with poor vision concluded that it is her because she does resemble the actress. Or maybe because he/she wanted the girl on the video to be the actress. Wicked sick. =)
  • This is the first time I watched Thai porn. It's kind of weird that the face of the guy is censored. I just don't get it. Camera shy?
  • There is piano music playing while the stars are doing their best. Come on. Hindi bagay.
As far as I can see, the "cleaning" of Angel's name is in the name of business. Another profit maximization strategy. That is because she just transferred to another station and all, which is another profit maximization strategy. But really, I'm disappointed in the fact that the network allowed to show the video on air. They shouldn't have.

Well, Evangelion

Watched it way back then as a kid. I couldn't remember anything except for the cute girl pilots.
I felt the urge to watch the series all over. So I did. There are 26 episodes plus the other movies, so that's nearly twelve hours of my time.

A usual theme: Humans advancing technology and playing God. It is rather disturbing that scientists become slaves to some sick organization just because of funding concerns.

The story starts great but ends in a really fucked up way. It is very entertaining in the beginning with all the action and character relationships. But, really, I hate the way it ended.

The anime is sick. It is even sicker than Yagami Light. The series contains blood, gore, violence, and sex.

It is meant to be confusing. Talk about philosophy. I know it is good exercise for the mind, but really...

A quote from Assistant Director Kazuya Tsurumaki, "If a person who can already live and communicate normally watches it, they won't learn anything."
Maybe I can live and communicate normally. Hmm...

Shinji is one of the douchiest anime characters of all time. If he was created to annoy me, he accomplished his mission and more.
It reminds me of Light. Relative to Shinji, Light is better off since he is someone who knows what he wants and does what he has to in order to obtain it.
Light is a motivated person. Shinji is a douche.

My own reaction:
Do not, under any circumstance, watch it for entertainment. It is only entertaining for the first parts so watching it fully may be upsetting.
On the brighter side, this anime is still good since it is way better than Naruto Shippuuden. With Eva, you don’t have to wait an eternity for a fight scene to finish.

This is a 'hypothetical' Evangelion Live Action Movie Trailer. The scenes from different movies are too obvious. And, oh yes, Streght? What the hell is that?

Bum week: Tuesday

I woke up relatively late today, around 1 p.m. Ate lunch while seeing crap T.V. (think of Filipino noon time shows), then watched anime, Devil May Cry and Evangelion, the whole afternoon. Kind of exhausted from watching that's why I took a break.

A while ago, I got a call for the job offer from a big software company that I applied to. Apparently, the first day for that job will be on August 16, 2007. That's like three weeks from now, so if ever I will accept their offer, I'll be bumming around for a while longer. Sarap.

Sama ko kay mom sa gym on friday and/or thursday.

Tomorrow, punta ko sa employer ko to surrender my I.D., and A.T.M. card. That is, to finalize the resignation.

May plans mga college friends to go swimming or something on the weekend. Tamang-tama.

Saturday, July 21, 2007

Bum, yeah

After 11 weeks of employment, I resigned to bum around for a bit and then to attend to better opportunities.

I'm glad because after months of missing the movie theaters, nakapanood din ako kagabi. Harry Potter, lol. I was unable to go watch movies when I was working. Pagod kasi. Mahirap kasi yung tipong nakakatulog sa sinehan, masaya kapag relax lang when watching movies.

Anyhow, bumming around for the week is going to be fun.

I'm going back to work at around August 1. Work place? No commitment to any of the offers, yet. The thing is, before returning to work, I'd like to be able to do what I want.

More brain drain... err, hemorrhage

Another article regarding Filipino's going abroad: Philippines: Workers for the World

I am not against going abroad because when it comes down to it, it is a choice. The choice that each and everyone can make. It's just that I hope that Filipino's will consider making the choices that will benefit not only themselves, but also their country.

Death Note

Episode 1:

The beginning is creepy. The drawing for the death gods is creepy. The Japanese spoken english is creepy. The first death is creepy, it got me goosebumps. Everything seems to be creepy but then Ryuk says something about globalization. Something about writing the instructions in his? (I still don't know whether Ryuk is a male or female, but he does sound like a male, so I'm using he) notebook in English because he says it is the most popular language in Light's world. I do think the author is saying something though.

What happens to the Death Note if it falls into the ocean or if it falls into the crater of an active volcano? Does it burn or something? What will the death god who lost it do?

What happens when all the pages are filled?

Receiving the death note and utilizing it makes Light a death god. I mean, he can kill anyone, anytime.

When Ryuk said that anyone who uses the death note will not make it to heaven or hell, I thought, the possible places he could be referring to are the realm of the death gods or possibly the purgatory.

Very interesting start.

Episode 2:

I just can't help but watch.

There's that creepy Japanese spoken english, again.

The death note is not invulnerable. It can burn.

The limitation of mass media (TV, radio, print, internet) has been pointed out. There are some information that you just won't find, things you just can't find.

Also the apple thing (Adam and Eve), it's just the other way around. It's kind of weird.

Episode 3:

Ryuk is pretty funny. He got creeped out because of the guy stalking Light. He also started acting like a death god.

The idea of being in the field.

How would you feel if you are a criminal and your father is in the team hunting you?

Episode 4:

Fuck, the anime is too good.

So Light discovers his stalker using the death note.

Episode 5:

They integrated date and time now.

Ray Penbar is shown with his fiancee. He is such a patriarch. Then there is the plans for a family. He is probably going to die and his fiancee will continue the case.

Just as I expected, the fiancee will continue the investigation.

Episode 6:

Happy new year! I just can't help but watch.

Light's father and the other people part of the investigation met L, Ryuzaki.

Light met up with Ray Penbar's fiancee. As expected, she is awfully good. Feminism, I suppose.

Episode 7:

Light is very sharp and evil.

I feel sorry for Naomi. Though I never would have thought that she would trust anyone, after Ray's death. Specifically, I never thought she would commit the same mistake as Ray. I wouldn't know, but if I were in her situation, I would not believe Light when he said that he is part of the Kira case. Light would have dealt with Ryuk in order to get Death God's eyes.

Episode 8:

I hate surveillance cameras.

Light is pretty rich having bought that Mini TV and throwing it just like that.

Episode 9:

Pretty good development, L purposely went into Toudai to get closet to Light.

This Light character is excellent. He's an evil hypocrite who can perform both in a manner that does not harm his reputation.

I must really commend Tsugumi Ohba for creating such a good series.

Episode 10:

That Ryuzaki guy, I don't think that someone who has such posture can be too good in any physical sport.

The profit maximization issue just popped in my head when the media guy said that his staff should do even fake stuff in order to get good ratings. Seriously, irresponsible media...

Episode 11:

Why does it have to be this brilliant?

The twist of having another death note owner but with death god's eyes is pretty darn awesome. I was thinking of the role of that girl in the opening but it made perfect sense when she was shown.

Seriously, I thought Light is sickest and most demented character in the series. Having someone crazier than him makes the show even more interesting.

The gods have gender. Since Rem is supposed to be a female, Ryuk is most probably male.

Episode 12:

The character Misa is pretty cute, as I'd expect. There might be a chance that Light will like her and they will develop a relationship, or so.

Killing a death god surely is romantic. But its just that the death god should write a name (human only?) in his/her death note, and, supposedly, love is the only thing that can trigger that.

The story of Jealous is pretty touching. I wonder why it has to be Misa.

From the beginning of the anime, the gods have been taken lightly.

Do death gods who lose their death notes see each other?

Can't wait for the next episode. :D

Episode 13:

After a long wait, I finally got to watch the 13th episode. Fuck Viz.

Fortunately, there are other fansub groups that are not stopping with the sub yet.

So death gods definitely see each other when they are on Earth.

As to the idea of Light liking Misa, it is clearly not possible in the current context of the anime. Light will just use Misa, I feel bad for her. Unfortunately, she is too naive and Light is too evil.

I find it very funny that the voice actress of Misa is Aya Hirano, the voice actress for Haruhi Suzumiya, because they are two completely different characters. Haruhi is very egotistic and dominating, while Misa is submissive. Although, the thing is, they both look cute.

Episode 14:

The idea that L considers Light a friend is cool. The thing is that you just can't distinguish if L is just acting or not.

Episode 15:

Poor Misa, being tortured like that.

I wonder why Light said goodbye to Ryuk. Maybe he's going to give up ownership on his old death note and use Rem's death note in order to destroy evidence or something.

Episode 16:

So Light gave up on the ownership of Rem's death note. He then decided to get confined to give up on Ryuk's death note in order to forget about him being Kira. Very clever move.

He forgets that he is Kira but the criminals get killed anyhow. Light buffered them, lol.

What's really exciting is the future event that Light rediscovers that he is Kira. It really is impossible that Light will completely give up rights to the death note.

I can't really understand why Light's father can't accept that his son may be Kira. Is it pride or something else?

Light's expression really changed when he discarded the death note. It became more gentle. Come to think of it, I now remember the character who seems to resemble Light, Hisoka from Hunter X Hunter.

Episode 17:

Morals? What morals? I can't believe that those words came out of Light's mouth after manipulating Misa and doing all the other things that he has done. I wonder if he is just faking it.

The death note is being used for profit maximization now. Rem probably went to that guy because Light told her to.

Episode 18:

It is obvious that L is obsessed with catching Kira. Constructing a very tall building for the workers is simple proof of that. Just think about the purpose of the building after Kira is caught.

Another impressive twist in the story is that politicians have been threatened to stop the police from hunting Kira or the latter will kill them too. This made it possible for L to work with 'underground professionals'.

I suppose that is an idea of Light as well.

L's highly secure building is easily infiltrated by a thief (dorobo). It's weird.

Episode 19:

Matsuda is being shown to be stupid. He gets himself inside the Yotsuba group building and fails to keep his presence hidden.

Although he has been shown that way, he really is not, well at least not all that much. That is because of the fact that he understood and replied well to L's phone codes.

A funny thing is that Matsuda actually thinks of his unorthodox infiltration to be something to be proud of.

Another funny scene in this episode is when L is discussing that they should never be discovered to be investigating the Yotsuba group, and then Matsuda gets caught.

The Yotsuba building security sucks. Matsuda was able to get in without much trouble. In addition, Wedy was able to hack the security of the building and was able to put the video cameras in the meeting room.

Episode 20:

The new opening rocks. I just really don't understand the lyrics.

L's act in front of Misa is pretty dirty.

Episode 21:

Episode 22:

Misa will really get in trouble if L finds out that it wasn't Higuchi who killed that guy.

Episode 23:

Thrilling.

With the way that the story is heading, and the rules of the death note, it seems that there will come a time when Light will try to kill everyone in the Kira investigation team. But of course, he will not be able to kill Matsuda since his name has been written mistakenly twice in the death note.

Episode 24:

It's pretty convenient that Higuchi confessed immediately. But really, the death note is all that they needed.

The new rules really did remove the suspicion from Light and Misa.

Light is really evil use the idea that Misa will make the deal to get the death god's eyes in order to get L's real name.

From the preview, it appears that L has already accepted that he will die.

Episode 25:

What ever happened to Wedy and Aiber?

I never expected having a song sequence. Misa appears to be sad though.

L is eating that chocolate panda bears, lol. I kind of miss eating that.

L's death is sad. The foot massage scene, which other people think is too gay, before his death scene makes it even sadder.

Episode 26:

It's funny that Light is missing L.

What ever happened to Wedy and Aiber? -> Light killed them.

He even killed the all of the members of the Yotsuba group.

Episode 27:

Matsuda likes Sayu.

Melo is evil.

Sayu became cuter.

The Misa in the sleeping attire was also cute, ecchi.

Blatantly killing everyone involved with the Japanese Kira investigation unit will be interesting.

Episode 28:

This is like the only episode where Light acts stupid. It is also fast-paced because Light did not defend his actions.

As it is, the anime is starting to get a little boring. Although, the thing is, it is still very interesting.

It's funny that Light do not have the guts to kill Sayu.

I'm really annoyed at Light for treating Misa like he does. It's horrible. Kind of like Eli treating Jackie badly from Maging Sino Ka Man. Lol.

It seems that all of those who were at Wammy's orphanage are all genius and arrogant at the same time. Actually, every smart character in the anime is arrogant.

Episode 29-30:

I don't know, I got bored.

Episode 31:

The Kira supporters were easily bought, how annoying. Just like real life.

Poor Aizawa, not being able to prove anything ever since.

The anime just got exciting again. Maybe Misaki will kill Light. hehe Also, I think Light is really a homo. I mean, he ignores Misa but likes that Misaki guy even if the two does the exact same thing?

Lol, the dragon ball like (exaggerated and smooth) writing effects are pretty funny.

Poor Misa for being used yet again.

Episode 37:

Finally it ended.

Light is looking for Misa and Takada. That is just annoying considering the way he treated both of them.

It's kind of disturbing that the author chose to end it like that. It's like, Light is evil only in the context of the anime, and not in the general sense.

It is a brilliant anime. One of the best I've seen, I must say.

Bakit ganoon?

So much for stereotypes.

What can we do to make them come back?"

I want to create so many jobs in our country, good jobs that for a hardworking and talented Filipino, a job abroad will be a career choice and not the only choice left." Maganda naman ang balak niya, sana lang... Hanggang dun nalang muna.

Isang taon, walang kwenta

A year of blogging. Walang kwenta! Wahehe

Quite cool.

I believe that blogging, or in general, keeping a journal of whatever, is good. It makes the writer discover more about himself/herself. It practices writing skills. Most of all, it allows the writer to express whatever the hell it is he/she wants to express. In addition, making something empirical from past experiences is necessary for people like me, who seem to just forget things right after they happen.

Believe me, reading blog entries from the past can be very entertaining.

Fifteen days

Busy.

Negative Effects:
  • No time to do bum activities (play games, watch TV/movies).
  • Less time to spend with loved ones.
  • Less rest. -> Stress.
  • Few blog posts. -> Fifteen days without blogging. -> No logs on what has been happening. -> No future laughs.
Positive Effects:
  • Project finished.
  • More reasons to quit.
  • More overtime. -> Offer to transfer to the "premiere" department.
Within a month, the project assigned to us has been fully documented, implemented, and tested. If a team finishes a "normal" project, the members get many benefits. The project assigned to us is what the people inside refer to as "under the table". It means that we will be dry on the benefits. Cool huh?

Tax is one of the most annoying things. It helps the country but it's just plain stupid especially when government officials misuse it.

I've been crawling to get my TIN card, but my employer's processing is just too slow. It simply sucks. It's like: What the fuck! Let me pay my taxes!

Drinking tea is fun.

I have to drink some iron sulfate because the doctor says I've got a below normal hemoglobin g/dL.

We saw Star Mars.

Nanimonai.

Barangay Clearance

Job hopping, Pasukan, Pagtaba

Basta puro programming lang ang pinapagawa tapos field trips to Cavite and Laguna.

I miss my Starcraft days. Grabe, sigurado, first day pa lang ng release ng game, may torrent na kaagad yan. Downloadable within hours.

Natapos na yung Maging Sino Ka Man. Ang sagwa ng katapusan. Happy eh.

XD). Gwapings or maganda lang, okay na. Ganoon na talaga ang ipinapalabas ngayon eh.

Wala na akong maisip.

Automation daw ang kailangan!

ELECTION 2007: SAME OLD STORY

This is an article written by Richard Gordon. It emphasizes the idea that elections should be automated. That is to prevent cheating (?) and manual mistakes, and to make the whole process safer (?).

Sino ba kasi ang comsci, IT or may gustong tumulong diyan? Hehe, wala yata.

...

Ilan sa mga bagay na madaling mapansin.

Politicians. Maraming pretenders, part time job hunters, job hunters, buyers, sellers, singers, dancers, at jokers.

Transportation. Buraot na sistema, sardinas, tulakan at patayan sa MRT. Traffic sa EDSA, sa Shaw Boulevard, sa Ortigas, sa Cubao. Mainit at may swabeng larawan sa ticket sa LRT. Sobrang haba ng pila sa sakayan.

Government. Buraot na sistema.

Food, housing, at marami pang iba.

It's sad that the Filipino people have few choices especially in the important aspects. Pinakamalungkot isiping mayroong wala talagang alam.

May choice ba?

Friday, April 13, 2007

Most Filipino Politicians are Chicken

Or hiding something. XD

That is, other than the fact that most, if not all, are corrupt, leeching/stealing money from the Filipino people.

Anyhow, nakapuna nanaman ako. Na-expose nanaman kasi ako sa mass media other than the internet. Something like, "This ad has been paid by friends", or by some other people, kahit sino na lang, basta hindi yung candidate. Bakit nga ba may ganoon pa? Takot o may tinatatago?

Term of Office and Privileges, specifically ang salary, ng isang senador.

Meron daw kasing someone running for some position na sinuportahan ng some people.

Vote wisely!!!

You know...

In the comedy show Premium Blend, there was a comedian named Dwayne Kenney. His act’s introduction was very catchy. Something like, "Yo... You know what I'm sayin'...?” His discussion after that was very funny and witty.

It's very funny that it made me realize that the expression, "You know...", can be very annoying. You know...
It breaks the thought. Why not just continue the fucking ellipsis and go on like knowing what you're saying.

It is for those who cannot put into words what they are thinking. You know...

Movie: The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

My eldest sister and I decided to watch the movie.

The movie goes to show that, well, working hard and having faith will eventually lead to something good.

The casting is good. Will Smith is, hands down, astonishing for portraying the role of Chris Gardner in such an exceptional way. From his previous movies, his talents for comedy and action are pretty good, but this is his only movie where he showcased his touch of drama. Really the 'sleeping in the public comfort room' scene is touching.
Jaden Christopher Smith, a real life son of Will Smith, starred side by side with his father as Chris Gardner's son who is also named Christopher. He, too, portrayed his role remarkably.

Everything about the movie is good or acceptable, well, except for the ending. My sister and I are annoyed because of its abruptness. My sister was saying, "So that's why it didn't win an Oscar's".

It is kind of weird but it seems that all movies that I've been watching lately are all good. This one's good, too. Really. It makes me think that I should have watched Epic Movie.

Hehe.

Game: Devil May Cry 3

I recently finished playing the PC version of the game. Took me about twelve hours in total.

Great game. The action, gore, graphics, sound, and other stuff makes me feel my adrenaline rushing as I pound the keyboard while playing.

The cinematics are fun to watch. When I saw that they are actually motion captured, it made me think higher of the game.

The story is pretty much okay. I was able to relate to it fast without any trouble. That is a good thing. The designers focused on the action part and made the story simple so that gamers will actually just play more and not analyze what is happening.

The graphics is good. It is smooth even if I played under a resolution of 640x480 with vertex shaders disabled.

The sounds are good. Hard rock music while playing made me want to smash the enemies on screen. Perfect combination.

The problem with the game is that it isn't keyboard-user friendly because some of the actions require certain button combinations in order to be executed. The game engine doesn't recognize three buttons pressed at a time, so there were many moves that I wasn't able to perform.

Adding to the disappointing list of the game are the puzzles. They are ridiculously very easy to solve. I mean, come on, this game is designed for "grown ups", why the hell are the puzzles too easy?

This is actually the first from the series that I have played. I'm not planning to play the first and second installations though.

I replayed it and finished all modes for Dante except Heaven or Hell since it is annoying. I didn't know that the Dante Must Die difficulty is really hard. So it took me time to finish it.

Here is the save file.

I can't wait for Devil May Cry 4 and the anime. I'm planning to buy an Xbox 360, not a PS3 since it is too expensive, just for that game. It's also possible to wait for the PC version but I kind of want to play it on a console.

Ah, nanood kami ng The Number 23.

Napakaputi. Sobra yung pagkaka-edit.

Kumuha rin ako ng JITSE or PhilNITS, Philippine National IT Standards. Japanese certification exam daw, in English. In two weeks time pa raw lalabas yung results.

Sa ngayon, bum mode ulit. Walang kailangang gawin.

Pahinga nalang muna ako siguro, nood nood, laro laro. Sarap.

Last Week of College

The only failing na nakuha ko after 2 years and the sedond lowest l.e. score ko sa buong buhay ko, the lowest was 20%, exam sa electromagnetism. Also on wednesday, ngayon ko lang nalaman, exam din pala sa e-commerce. Nakakainis kasi yung ipapaexam niya simula january yung coverage.

Fate/Stay Night

The ending is absolutely stunning. I just finished watching the whole series. The Mac broke down again but a while ago it worked yet again so I decided to finish watching the series.

Anyhow, I never did expect that the series would end in such a way. The beginning and middle parts were too dragging, too many terms, explanations, and stuff to remember. The climax and conclusion gave most of everything that I actually wanted to be cleared. It was the drama that I liked, particularly the letting go of the one you love thing.

Good anime to kill time with.

For some reason, I rewatched.

There are many instances in the series were a touch of feminism is presented. "Shiro, you are my sheath". Shiro is incompetent, while Tohsaka, Illya, and Saber excel. Shiro is good at cooking. King Arthur, and also Bedivere, are shown as women. Gilgamesh, king of kings, is unable to get his hands on Saber. It all adds up.

The holy grail, in the context of this anime, is the representation of human desire. It's like, if someone excessively desires to achieve something, it will eventually lead to trouble for others.

"There are things that are beautiful because they are unattainable".

Again, the ending is very good. The art, the script, the music, the animation, everything.
